Abstract

This study aimed to detail the clinical and epidemiological aspects of leptospirosis, aiming to contribute to effective strategies to combat the disease in public health. An Integrative Literature Review was carried out, with a systematic search in PUBMED and the VHL, using the Health Sciences Descriptors in English "Clinical Epidemiology", "Disease Management" and "Leptospirosis", combined by the Boolean operator AND. The results highlighted the crucial need to improve infrastructure and implement appropriate sanitary measures, as well as emphasizing the importance of effective rodent control through multidisciplinary approaches. It was observed that leptospirosis has two distinct phases, immunological and leptospiremic, requiring comprehensive treatment with antibiotic therapy, particularly doxycycline, together with the use of probiotics and, in some cases, corticosteroids. It is concluded that the effective approach to leptospirosis depends on robust preventive measures and collaboration between different professional areas, including medical and veterinary support, essential for the success in preventing and treating this significant zoonotic disease.
