Abstract

SUMMARY

INTRODUCTION: Down Syndrome (DS), also known as trisomy 21, is a genetic condition that affects approximately 1 in every 700 births worldwide.

OBJECTIVE: To analyze interventions and results on cognitive development in Down Syndrome. METHODOLOGY: This study adopted the integrative literature review method to analyze interventions and results related to the cognitive development of individuals with Down Syndrome. To select the studies, searches were carried out in scientific databases such as PubMed, Scielo, and Google Scholar. The research included articles published between 2010 and 2023. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: Interventions aimed at the cognitive development of individuals with Down Syndrome have shown promising results, especially when started early. Early stimulation therapies, which include activities aimed at motor, cognitive and social development, are widely recognized for their positive impact. CONCLUSION: The success of interventions depends on a multidisciplinary approach, which considers the individual characteristics of each person with Down Syndrome, as well as the integration of educational, therapeutic and social strategies.
